S.V. Part II: Residency at the Jewish Cemetery

Welcome back! This post wraps up what turned out to be a very long and productive summer.  It begins with a few pictures from the outskirts of Prague.

Jp came to visit and he made a new friend.

Here's me at the Ceremonial Hall of the old Jewish Cemetery in Telc, CZ.  I was given this building, and the cemetery, for a one week exhibition/residency.  I spent the entire week reading, meeting with the locals and getting to know some of the cemetery's inhabitants.  The place has no electricity and no running water so it felt a bit like living at Walden Pond, except creepier.  It was a truly unique experience and I loved every minute it.

Here's what the exhibition looked like.  If you are not familiar with my East/West project you can see the images here.

I also had a box in the center of town where I displayed some of the Impossible Project images I made during the week.  (These will be the focus of my next blog post).

By the way, if you're going to operate a cemetery, it had been come with a skeleton key!

A fitting place to leave it might be this commy statue I found in a small town in south CZ.  The inscription reads: "We thank you and we love you"

Summer Vacation Part I: The Baltics to the Balkans

Hello folks!  July has been both busy and awesome!  The month began in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.  From there I went to Prague for a reunion with the fam, and soon we all felt the need for a vacation from our vacation so we jumped in the car and drove to Croatia.  And if that is not enough, I am currently the care-taker of an old Jewish cemetery in rural Czech Republic - that will be my focus for the next post, part II.

First Vilnius, one of my all time favorite places in Europe.  This was my third time visiting.

These guys! (no idea)

The Green Bridge, on which you can find the only commy statues remaining in Vilnius.

And something that looks a lot like a cathedral

PRAHA

This is always, without fail, the first thing that happens when I get to Prague!

I got a visit from a famous painter (ironically the bar is called Blue Light)

 Squatter 1

Squatter 2 (shit, this could be me one day)

 Cleo!

This is Peter and his pet-wild boar.  The boar had a disease so it was abandoned by its mother and Peter nursed it back to health.  Now he's like the family dog.

And this ladies and gentleman, is what's next on the agenda!
